3D TV from the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa

Apparently ESPN 3D will broadcast (live) 3D
from South Africa this summer.

[I.e. In a joint announcement Sony and FIFA have announced the 2010 South
African World Cup will be the first to be shown in 3D and Sony has secured
the deal to produce it.
“3D will undoubtedly transform the way we enjoy content in the Living Room,”
said Fujio Nishida, president of Sony Europe.]

All very nice – but in order to be onboard here you will have to buy your
3d tv before june.

Certainly, cinemas around the world should jump at the opportunity
at showing the games live and in 3d – after Avatar they have all the gear in
place?

But for some reason there has been very quiet on this front?
If cinemas in some cities can show the Superbowl then why not
the World Cup in 3d?

Do we really all have to go out there and be early adapters
on the 3d TV front you wonder? Or could we have some chances
of enjoying the technology outside our own homes before we
actually buy it? Such as the FIFA World Cup?
